This very rare Heirloom cocoa grows at Puentespina Farm, Malagos District (Barangay Baguio District, Davao City) in the Philippines. There are only 2000 trees, yielding about 150-200 kg of beans per year. Malagos is derived from malakas na agos, meaning “strong stream of water”. The farm lies exactly on the equator, which makes it an ideal location for growing cocoa.
Here the soil, the sun, the climate – the environment – come together to create a unique terroir that gives the cocoa beans their identity, a uniqueness that cannot be reproduced anywhere else in the world.
