This dark chocolate bar from Svenska Kakao is made from Ucayali River cacao beans, sourced from the Amazon region outside Pucallpa, Peru. It offers elegant notes of rose, lychee fruit, and freshly ground black pepper. Made with just cacao beans and sugar, it highlights the flavors of Trinitario and local cacao varieties from the 2021 harvest.

I got a few Svenska chocolates to try. Peru 85% was one of my preferred bars, along with Tanzania 74% and, to my surprise, Licorice 55%. What they all have in common is a smooth mouthfeel and a well-rounded, balanced flavor where I could taste different notes in the chocolate; a little goes a long way. At 85%, the Peru bar is pleasant without the bitterness or excess sweetness often found at this ratio.
